Join us on a journey from the heart of the Balkans to the Bay of Kotor.

For years we’ve been dreaming about skipping those first 700 kilometers and diving straight into the most epic, hidden backroads deep in the Balkans. At the 5th Balkan Rally, that dream finally comes true.

The race kicks off in Trogir, where most of the crew and the fleet will roll in on an overnight train from Vienna. After two warm-up days, a seaside opening party, and a short prologue, we crank the wheel 90 degrees east and shoot across the Dinaric Alps on a road the rally has never touched before. From there, we’ll throw it back to one of the most legendary stretches from the first four years: crossing into Montenegro on a wooden bridge, cruising past the turquoise waters of the Piva Canyon, and diving into the world-famous single-lane P14 road across Durmitor National Park all the way to Kolašin.

From Kolašin, we loop out east into Kosovo, only to return by nightfall. Then comes a first in Rally history: crossing into Albania. We’ll snake our way down an insane mountain track along the border until we hit Lake Skadar, famous for its birdlife, before swinging back north to Budva – Montenegro’s ancient coastal gem with 2,500 years of history behind its walls. The grand finale? The southern edge of the Bay of Kotor, where we’ll wrap things up in style with the Rally’s most luxurious closing night yet, at The Chedi Lustica Bay.

4-10 September 2026
Trogir → Luštica bay

After two warm-up days, a seaside opening party, and a short prologue, we crank the wheel 90 degrees east and shoot across the Dinaric Alps on a road the rally has never touched before.

Arrival & Acclimatization

4 September 2026 | Friday
Trogir

Most of the crew will roll in by train, a few by plane, and some daring racers will drive their own cars straight to Trogir, where - making Rally history right on the spot - we’ll launch the epic week-long race and adventure with a two-night party to remember.

Prologue, Rider Briefing, Opening Ceremony & Pool Party

5 September 2026 | Saturday
Trogir → Trogir

The Brown Beach House is one of Croatia’s most stylish hotels, located right on the seafront opposite Trogir’s old town. The stunningly renovated building dates back to the 1890s, originally built by the Austro-Hungarian tobacco authority. Its iconic black-and-white tiled pool will host our most memorable opening ceremony yet. We’ll start with a spin toward Šibenik and spend a full day gearing up for the Balkan Rally’s wildest route ever.

Leg 1

6 September 2026 | Sunday
Trogir → Sarajevo

We’ve passed through Sarajevo many times, but never approached it straight from the west. Leaving behind the sun-drenched Adriatic coast, we enter the rugged, untamed landscapes of the Dinaric Alps, cutting through the Neretva River canyon and gliding past Lake Jablanica, all the way into the heart of Bosnia.

Leg 2

7 September 2026 | Monday
Sarajevo → Kolašin

After two years, we return to the most legendary stretch from the very first Balkan Rallys - the route that defined what this adventure is all about. By late morning we’re already rolling across one of Europe’s most charming border crossings, a wooden bridge from Bosnia into Montenegro. From there, the road winds along the unreal turquoise waters of the Piva Canyon before suddenly swinging left onto the world-famous P14. For 70 kilometer, this single-lane road leads us through wild mountain scenery, crossing a 2,000-meter pass near Bobotov Kuk, the highest peak of the national park. Alpine lakes, roaming sheep, and rustic A-frame huts line the way, each bend tempting us to stop for photos or for a strong Turkish coffee with homemade cheese. The day’s finish line: the cozy mountain luxury of Hotel Bianca, Montenegro’s largest ski resort.

Leg 3

8 September 2026 | Tuesday
Kolašin → Kolašin

For once, we won’t be packing up or checking out. After a quick breakfast, we hop in the cars and set off on an unforgettable loop around the Tara Canyon, plunging up to 1,300 meters deep. First, we head north along the canyon to Majkovac, then turn east and south, following a clockwise loop through Montenegro’s authentic mountain villages, approaching first the Kosovo and then the Albanian border. The evening wraps up with an epic parking-lot party in front of the iconic hotel.

Leg 4

9 September 2026 | Wednesday
Kolašin → Budva

As much as we wanted to show you the P14 road five years ago, we’ve been eagerly awaiting the day when the Balkan Rally fleet finally crosses into Albania. The Prokletije National Park sits on the border between the two countries and its name means “Cursed Mountains.” We’ll drive along the southern, Albanian side of this mountain range, one of Europe’s most beautiful, wild, and remote mountain roads. Descending from the heights, we’ll pass through another national park and return to Montenegro at Lake Skadar, finishing the day in Budva with a night overlooking the country’s oldest old town and the sparkling Adriatic coast.

Leg 5

10 September 2026 | Thursday
Budva → Luštica Bay

The final day of the Rally, and it’s still full-on racing. We weave through traffic on the tiniest roads, making our way to the Luštica Peninsula, which frames the southern side of the Bay of Kotor. Crossing it end to end, we pass through the tiniest fishing villages before reaching Montenegro’s most stunning hotel, The Chedi Luštica Bay, where we’ll hold the 5th Balkan Rally awards ceremony and closing celebration.

Race Categories

While the emphasis of this race lies much more on finishing than on actual performance, the team achieving the best time will ultimately claim victory of the Balkan Rally. Along the route, there are hidden checkpoints that bring a variety of special tasks to earn additional points. The overall score is determined by three crucial factors: adherence to the recommended route, precision in arrival time achieved through solving the included logical challenges, and successful photo captures of checkpoints using a Fuji Instax camera. Any deviations from these criteria will result in point deductions, but these can be offset by successfully completing the bonus photo challenges.

Perfect Gear Award

The award is given to the competitor who fully embodies the spirit of the Balkan Rally from head to toe - whether it’s a flawlessly shining vehicle or attire that perfectly matches the era of their car.

Winner of the Balkan Rally

The winner will be the driver or team who crosses the finish line with the highest score. This will require strong navigational skills, sticking to arrival times, and completing photo challenges.

Fair Play Award

At the gala evening, the award is presented to the competitor nominated and chosen by fellow participants, recognizing the most helpful and considerate racer.

    FAQ

This race, best described as having a “gran turismo” atmosphere, is open to vehicles that meet the internationally recognized 30+ year criterion based on either their manufacturing or design year. Alternatively, vehicles that are considered “special” for any reason may also qualify. The Balkan Rally expert jury grants entry approval in five different categories. If your vehicle is not from before 1990 but you believe it has a unique aspect that makes it worthy of the Balkan Rally, send us a few photos and a short description. The jury will review it within a few days.

No problem! Our partners offer a variety of cars and motorcycles for rent that comply with the rally’s regulations. Contact us for details, and we’ll help you find the perfect vehicle.

Not at all! While having a co-driver makes the journey more comfortable, every year there are participants who complete the rally solo. Our basic package includes accommodation in double rooms, meaning you’ll share a room with another competitor. If you prefer to have your own room, you can opt for a single-room upgrade.

Each night, we stay at different 4- or 5-star hotels along the route. Car entrants share a room with their teammates, while motorcyclists will be paired with another participant who shares similar interests. If you’d like a private room, check out our additional service options.

Our basic package runs from the opening weekend to the closing ceremony, after which you’ll say goodbye and drive home at your own pace. It includes 7 nights of half-board accommodation (breakfast and dinner) in four- or five-star luxury hotels during the rally, as well as the rally entry fee, a rally package and route guide, a commemorative plaque, secure overnight parking, luggage transport for motorcyclists, and premium gifts.

We’re happy to assist in getting your vehicle to the starting location on time. Based on your car or motorcycle’s specifications and your departure location, we will provide a custom transport offer.

If you are not an EU citizen, please check with your country’s embassy website to determine if you require a visa for entry.

All the countries we pass through (Hungary, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina) accept both passports and valid EU national ID cards for border crossings. A driver’s license is not considered a valid travel document.

The route takes us through five countries. We start in Hungary, then pass through Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Most of the route consists of paved roads, but there will be some sections with dusty or gravel roads and moderately challenging terrain.

Pack in at least two bags. Large suitcases will be transported in the support vehicles. Bring a backpack for essentials such as extra layers, water, a camera, and anything else you want to keep with you.

Our accommodations offer buffet-style dinners and hearty breakfasts. When planning the menus, we strive to showcase traditional culinary specialties from each region. Lunch should be arranged individually during the journey, and we will provide recommendations on the daily maps.

The entry package includes recovery for non-operational vehicles, meaning towing to the next rally accommodation and transportation for participants. If the vehicle is beyond repair, we will help arrange transport home for both the vehicle and its occupants, but the cost will be the participant’s responsibility.

All participants must have valid travel insurance for the countries covered during the rally. Contact us, and we’ll be happy to help you find the best option for you.
